North Alabama Medical Center
North Alabama Medical Center is a new 5-story, comprehensive 263-bed all-private acute care hospital located on 50-acres in downtown Florence, Alabama.
Within the hospital, there are 14 operating rooms, a dedicated cath lab suite with 4 procedure rooms, 33 emergency positions, imaging with radiology, MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, and other ancillary services.
Thirty critical care beds are accommodated on the second floor of the hospital. The third floor contains Women’s Services, with 9 LDR rooms, 21 postpartum beds, and both term and level 2 nurseries. Fourth and fifth floors are designed for medical / surgical beds.
All major hospital ancillary departments are located along the perimeter of the building on the first floor and are planned to expand horizontally. Designed by Gould Turner Group, the building is a multi-story six-floor vertical design with the structure planned to permit portions of the building to expand vertically.
Prefabrication and virtual design and construction were critical in building in a tight labor market and meeting the aggressive 23-month schedule.
With the prefabrication of headwalls, VAV’s in the HVAC units, wall mounted lavatories, and many other MEP components, Layton saved 30-50% or nearly $2 million in labor costs by allowing MEP trades to keep fewer men over a longer period of time, and saved six months on the overall project schedule.
